I don't know is it possible from call log or not. But in whatsapp, you can click on new chat icon >> tap on search 🔎 icon >> paste the number you want to whatsapp >> and proceed if it is available on it.

You cant but there is another method, copy the phone number paste it on ur own chat in watsapp, then click on it..
