yes you use dex without dex station in android pie.
but I think using dex with dex station is better. as dex station has fans which will prevent device from getting hot while using dex mode.

yes u have to use i also use s8 running android pie and i tested dex mode throw type c cable to hdmi cable and it works fine but the phisical keyboard and mouse will not work but if u use throw phone u have to use it

yes you can use DeX with DeX cable you don't need DeX station after updating to pie update.
