Galaxy SSamsung rolls out security patches to their older devices along with other newer models without huge delays on newer vs older devices.
New phones, post-Samsung S8/s8+ comes with Google Treble support (Perhaps Google’s boldest move yet, Project Treble was announced last year as a direct answer to complaints about Android updates. As discussed above, updates have to be compatible with the device hardware, which means manufacturers have to wait for hardware vendors to change significant portions of their code to work within the Android OS framework.
Project Treble changes this by separating the Android OS framework from vendor-specific code, making it easier and faster for manufacturers to implement updates.).
Your S8 mostly won't get the latest official Android updates anymore but I don't see why you wouldn't get security patches (which again, will end by a year or two but by then you will upgrade).
Nevertheless, Samsung shouldn't be compared to Mi. Not in terms of the built, UI, security or the support. It's just a different universe, a better universe :smiling-face:
I am a proud Samsung user since 2014. I have owned all the S series except for the S9 and I have received security patches for S8 as well.
