The S Pen has always been a key feature of Samsung’s Ultra lineup, enhancing productivity and creativity. With the S25 Ultra, however, Samsung removed Bluetooth functionality from the S Pen. While there are minor improvements, this decision also takes away features that long-time users loved.

Here’s why Bluetooth was important for the S Pen:

  • Remote Camera Controls: Bluetooth allowed the S Pen to work as a remote shutter button for hands-free photos and videos, perfect for selfies or group shots.
  • Air Actions & Gestures: Bluetooth enabled gesture controls to switch apps, adjust volume, and more, offering a smoother experience.
  • Productivity Boost: The S Pen acted as a presentation remote, great for professionals who need to switch slides easily.
  • Enhanced Usability: Bluetooth made the S Pen more versatile for scrolling, shortcuts, and interacting with apps.

What Did Samsung Improve by Removing Bluetooth?

  • Lighter S Pen: It’s slightly lighter, making it easier to use for longer periods.
  • No Charging: The S Pen no longer needs charging, so no worrying about battery life for remote features.
  • Better Battery Efficiency: Without Bluetooth, the phone may last a bit longer on a charge.

Was It Worth Removing Bluetooth?

For an Ultra device, removing Bluetooth feels like a step backward. While the lighter design and no charging are nice, losing remote features takes away much of the S Pen’s value. If you need those features, the S24 Ultra is the better choice. If this trend continues, future Ultra buyers may need to buy a Bluetooth-enabled S Pen separately.
