I found an older related article  (4 years ago) with no satisfactory solution, so I post again, describing my user experience in detail. We are in 2022, such user experience is basically unacceptable. I have an S9.

  • I wake up in the morning and listen to music through my Bluetooth speakers.
  • I plug in my headphones (wired) and walk off to work. Since I'm now listening privately, I switch to more loud music (heavy metal).
  • In the evening I come back from work, still listening to heavy metal music on my headphones.
  • As I approach the house listening to music on the headphones the phone automatically connects to the Bluetooth speaker in the house and starts playing some heavy metal music IN THE HOUSE, scaring my poor wife to death!!!
  • Now I know and have adapted my behavior... I switch to some soft jazz on my way home and as my wife affectionately puts it "Oh, when the speakers start playing music I know you're coming home" :)
  • Recently I bought a Bluetooth headset. Oh what fun!
  • I am at home listening to music on the Bluetooth headset (because my wife is studying for an exam).
  • I go to the kitchen and walk back to the living room and the music switches from the Bluetooth headset to the Bluetooth speakers!
  • Sometimes, I am just sitting at the couch in the living room, where the Bluetooth speakers are, and without any apparent reason the music switches to the Bluetooth speakers.... Oh my...

We are in 2022! This kind of user experience is simply unacceptable. Don't you have any QA teams at all to test for these behaviors??? They are TOTALLY BASIC usage scenarios, totally trivial.

Is there any setting to control this automatic switching?

Just can simply turn blutooth on/off toggle on your phone when needed.

Thanks guys, but these are non-solutions. Am I supposed to be pairing unpairing my devices several times every day depending on what I'm about to do? I've better things to do with my time. We ALL have better things to do with our time.

All I ask for is "common-sense" behavior. If I am just sitting on my desk doing my work (working from home) and suddenly the audio switches from Bluetooth headset to Bluetooth speakers, that's TOTALLY unacceptable. The reverse ALSO happens. I put the music output to the Bluetooth speakers and 10 minutes later, all of a sudden, without any apparent reason the music switches to the Bluetooth headset which is lying there on my desk... That is tragic-comic for year 2022. And of course, as I walk towards home listening to wired-headphones, WHY on earth does it automatically take the decision to switch to the Bluetooth speakers? I need to have Bluetooth on all day for Test&Trace reasons.  What am I supposed to do there? Remember to turn off Bluetooth as I approach home so that I don't scare my wife? That's hilarious...

I'm sure Apple devices don't do such things. I don't particularly like Apple (to put it mildly) but they seem to get user experience right more often.

Btw, my Bluetooth speakers are Samsung. I would expect that they work well with a Samsung phone...

To sum it up, what I'm asking for is "DO NOT automatically change the audio output device UNLESS I as a user ask for a change".
