You cannot format your device using Smart Switch, you can only take a backup. You have to format using your phone's settings or recovery.

Smart switch only allows you to backup or restore your backup afterwards. It is not a tool to format your phone. If you want to reset your phone do the following. 1st use smartswitch with your pc and backup your phone. Then go to your phone settings and reset your phone to factory default ( which is formatting your phone). Then use smartswitch again to restore your backup. Hope this clarify your question.

Will all my settings come back to as they were if I restore using smart switch

Yes most of it will come back. I have done so just last week and my phone performance improved drastically. Your themes , wall papers may not be there but once you log into samsung account and then go to themes section, under purchased you will see all your old stuff and you can re download. For 3rd party apps , you may have to re enter their respective settings like you want, not a big deal. Good luck. Since Samsung and Google only allows 15 gb free, most of your data will be available to restore. If you have more big folders, then backup manually using smartswitch and restore later manually too
