Edge lighting: Is it really working fine?

I have been observing closely the functioning of edge lighting on the Note 8. I'm happy to see it working fine when the screen is on. But, the problem starts when the screen is off.
I've observed the edge lighting up only for notification for default Message. But, notifications from other applications such as WhatsApp, Gmail, Samsung Email etc. don't light up the edge, even when everything is turned On- "Always" option as well as "All Notifications".
Basic search on Google, made me realise that this is a global issue. Is anyone facing same issues here too? Is there a fix or a solution for this? How can I make it work fine for all applications even when screen is off?
