It won't do much if you charge more frequently

Well, it does not stop overcharging your phone as this is happening for years in android. Your device automatically stops charging when it reached 100. It basically reduces the number of charge cycles of your device as it increases rapidly above 80.

To make it simple, more charge cycle = more battery degradation.

Charging from 0 to 100 - 1 charge cycle.

And making your phone charge to 85, reduces the intensity of the cycle to 0.21 to 0.3. Thus, making your battery last longer.
