One of the worst thing I recently noted on Samsung M series phone is that they have not enabled the capability to lock your screen while you are on a call. As a result, you will encounter very problematic and irritating experience of accidental touches every now and then. You may hit mute, bluetooth on and off (specifically when using BT ear phones to talk) etc accidentally while talking.

I know for sure that it can be enabled because I came from S9+ series to M series and its just a piece of code that Samaung deliberately chose not to put to disable the feature on Mid rangers like M42 5G and other M series phones just to give a deteriorating experience to it's users to feel the urge of using premium segment FLAGSHIP phones (they do not either return a good value as per their price range, but iPhone does in that price range).

From S9+ to M series ?
You did a downgrade, not an upgrade except for battery.

The proximity sensor is supposed to turn off the screen when the phone is kept on your face during a call. Isn't that working ?

Pressing the power button after recieving a call will turn off the display (If you haven't set the power button for ending calls), then you can place it near your ear.

Proximity sensor is working, but S series phones also have the feature to lock the screen while you are on a call. That helps a lot in controlling accidental touches while you speak putting your phone near your cheek or inside your pocket (if connected with BT earphone).
