My phone keeps installing strange apps by itself , what to do ??

I am using galaxy M40 right now,  from the last two days ,the phone is installing new apps by itself.

Just clear data and then restart galaxy apps, unselect all pre-selected bloat.

its mainly due to galaxy store one tap install recommended apps
clear the data
restart your phone

It might be due to discover app setting you enabled. Disable it as its installing the apps automatically from galaxy store.
