sometimes there is some problem. try cleaning the USB port. and then keep on trying.

Thanks for being with Samsung and sharing the concern. We would like to offer some troubleshooting the steps to overcome the issue:
1) Navigate to Settings >> Apps >> Tap on three dots >> Reset App Preference.
2) Reset the device settings by navigating to Settings >> General Management >> Reset >> Reset Settings.
3) Navigate to Settings >> Apps >> Select app >> Clear Cache.
4) Run the device in the safe mode.

I'm very sorry to tell you, but file and media transfer to any usb sticks is not available on samsung j8 2018 versions and earlier. The only capability these devices can do is to transfer files from and to any pc or device alike through usb file transfer that is a common and default feature on almost all android phones, except sticks and flash drives.
