Yes, there is no official option to indicate internet speed on the status bar, you have to use some 3rd party apps

To Know speed of your Internet You can use "Internet Speed Meter Lite" for internet speed meter. It is third party app available on Google Play Store and it is completely junk and load free. You must try it once.
