Hi, I just got delivered a S20 fe 5g today and out of the box it is having this problem.. and all the centers are closed due to lockdown.. are you sure it is a software issue or do I need to have my phone opened and repaired?

I had the same issue. Sent the phone in to Samsung. Instead of calibrating the fingerprint reader, they wanted to replace the entire display and main board. When I asked if they could just calibrate the sensor, they said their policy is that they don't do partial repairs and they assessed it needed those parts replaced, but they didn't explain why. They sent it back to me without calibrating the sensor, and also with new damage caused in the repair center, so I had to send it back again. Beware, getting Samsung optical readers calibrated isn't a very simple process, especially if out of warranty, even though all the technician needs to do is use the jig and load a special APK. I wish Samsung would enable their authorized third-party repair centers to do this calibration. That way I could pay $30 to make the fingerprint reader usable again instead of getting surprised with a bill for $500 and waiting several weeks. This is why we need right to repair.
