I am frustrated talking to Samsung customer care to ask what data from my device has been stored into Samsung cloud.

My device is suffering from a problem that contacts are getting saved in a wrong memory area phone(phone) instead of usual phone storage.
I thought I'd ask this from Samsung customer service chat. To do this I was forced to create a Samsung account on my phone.
And the next moment without my consent and without my knowledge data was taken from my phone and sent to Samsung cloud!

I really hate it and I don't think I will again buy a Samsung phone since it didn't respect my privacy.

Now I want to know what data has been taken from my phone to Samsung cloud. Again customer service doesn't understand what I am asking.

I have tinkered with all the settings and I am still not able to find any setting to turn off auto sync off and backup of at least call history, calendar and messages to Samsung cloud.

P.S. it has been two days since I have submitted request to Samsung cloud to download my data and it stays in processing stage only. And what data I am asking is what has been taken without my permission.

Just disable sync from notification panel.
Download samsung cloud app, check what apps are enabled after backup(if backed up automatically) - select three dots on above right - erase personal data.

Thanks for giving time to read and answer my post.

I am not sure what is meant by notification panel. Internet web search says notification panel is what you see after swiping down on the home screen. I have android 13, and there is no option to disable sync in this place.

I think the Samsung Cloud app is pre-installed on my galaxy a12. I access it by going to the settings app. In this app, first I select the top entry, which says my Samsung account name, account id, and phone number.
Then, under the apps and features section, there is the Samsung cloud option, which I open.
Is this the same as what you call the Samsung Cloud app?
In this app, I had ensured all available toggles under sync options were off.

There are options under backup and restore section->bakup. I have also disabled everything there.

Also as you also advised I had clicked on the option erase personal data yesterday night by clicking the menu three dots on Samsung cloud app home page then click settings option then under Privacy section clicked erase personal data. Though, there is a disclaimer that data will not be immediately deleted. After this, it took me to Privacy website in Samsung browser. There, I am surprised that there is no way to view privacy policy for India. https://privacy.samsung.com/gps

Once I finish downloading my data from Samsung Cloud, I will request deletion. Trying to delete some portions gives an error your request can not be accepted, perhaps because I had requested download of data earlier, but I'm not sure if this error will keep continuing even after the download finishes.

It is further sick that there is no way to set the location to India in Samsung Privacy website.
See the attached photo.

Your contacts are saved in Device Phone memory, it can also be saved in SIM memory, and in all cases, backed up in cloud storage service of Google or Samsung.
Samsung cloud may backup in encrypted or without encryption, your phone data not limited to your contacts, calendar, notes, sms, app data, images and other files, call logs, voice recording etc, but with your permission. Samsung respects your privacy and none of your data is shared without your consent. You may delete all backed up data from the servers or encrypt the backup as per your choice.

To delete your back up data, follow the steps
Navigate to Settings -> Accounts and Back Up, under the section Samsung Cloud, tap on Restore Data, Choose the Backup to Restore Data from, tap on the Hamburger button (three vertical dots on upper right corner of the screen), Select the option to Delete Backups from the menu.
If you do not wish to keep the account active on your phone, delete the account from Manage Accounts section.

Dear Samsung Member,

Greetings from Samsung Customer Support!

As per your concern regarding the data store on Samsung Cloud. We want to reassure you that data is not shared on the cloud without your permission. When you create an account on Samsung Cloud and back up your device, it will always request your consent. By default, it displays all applications, and you can select which ones you wish to share on Samsung Cloud.

We understand you're facing issues downloading your data. To assist you further, could you please share the log file? Additionally, providing video clips and images would help us to understand the situation better and investigate accordingly.

Path: Samsung Members Application (Open Samsung Members Application > Support> Tap on send feedback> Choose Composer> Select error report> select the appropriate issue category> Type your query and send.)

Note: To ensure relevant log information is included in the error report, submit the report within 3 minutes of encountering the bug or error, and do not terminate (swipe away) the Samsung Members application until you are notified that the report has been sent. This can take up to 5 minutes.

Warm Regards,
Samsung Customer Support

Thank you very much for getting back to me. The customer support chat experience is horrifying. The SIA is bearable since in about 7 min, it yields to a human operator. But please train your customer service operator answering to customer chats. In case they can't understand, then they should be instructed to forward the issue to a more experienced person as needed. Further, please tell them not to get impatient if the response message doesn't come in 2 min. To type in even a slightly detailed response takes time, especially when you are using the Samsung keyboard.

Please wait for at least three more days before I respond to the steps you have mentioned in your reply. I will reply, but I am sorry I am very busy right now.
