My previous phone had proximity sensor. My new galaxy A55 have virtual proximity sensor. Its working well. But its not smooth and reliable. Unwanted detection and sometimes not turning off. 

During browsing, sometimes the screen turn off even when "keep screen on while viewing" feature is turned on. 

Both this issues only happen once in a while. Senors are not damaged and is good. Maybe the software tuning or optimisation is not good.

Not a major problem. S series and M series (some models only) have proximity sensor. Why only a few in between models are given virtual proximity sensors. Not many will notice such small matters.
A few more thing added to the list when buying a phone next time. 

Which sensor is in your phone. Are you facing problems.
