You're not the only one bro. I'm also experiencing that.

Here are the most common and practical causes when an on-screen Samsung fingerprint reader stops recognising prints, especially on Fold, S-series, and A-series devices:
1. Screen surface issues
These are the most frequent.
• Screen protector interfering — If you’ve recently installed or replaced a protector, it may be too thick, misaligned, or not approved for ultrasonic scanners.
Even a tiny air bubble or lifting corner over the sensor zone causes repeated failures.
• Residue on screen — Oils, lotion, moisture, sanitizer, sunscreen, or dust disrupt ultrasonic reading.
Quick wipe with a dry, clean microfiber cloth usually helps.
2. Fingerprint template degradation
Over time the stored print becomes “stale.”
• Small skin changes (dry fingertips, cuts, peeling, moisture) degrade matches.
• Aging enrolment — A print captured months ago often fails after many small changes.
Re-enrol after deleting existing fingerprints is the fastest fix.
3. Software settings or corrupted fingerprint data
• Biometric service glitch after an update.
• Security update that reset some biometric parameters.
Fix:
Settings → Biometrics & security → Fingerprints → Delete all → Re-register, then restart the phone.
4. Moisture, temperature, or circulation issues
• Cold or wet fingers are a known problem.
• Excessively dry skin also reduces ultrasonic reflection.
5. Protective case or hinge pressure (Fold devices specifically)
• Some cases place minor pressure near the screen, causing inconsistent reads.
• If the phone flexes slightly, the reading zone alignment shifts.
6. Power-saving mode affecting sensor speed
When the device throttles background processes, the scanner may time out.
• Disable: Settings → Battery → Power saving.
7. Third-party launchers or accessibility overlays
Overlays can interfere with the fingerprint animation or timing.
Check for:
• Good Lock modules affecting the lock screen
• Edge panels
• Screen-overlay permissions for apps like chat heads, clipping tools, etc.
8. Hardware fault in the ultrasonic sensor
Less common, but it happens. Indicators:
• Consistently fails even after fresh registration
• Cannot enrol a fingerprint at all
• Failure persists in Safe Mode
If those occur, it’s usually a hardware defect under the screen panel.
Quick diagnostic steps (most effective order)
• Clean the screen thoroughly.
• Disable/remove screen protector temporarily.
• Restart the phone.
• Delete all fingerprints and re-register with multiple angles and pressure levels.
• Test in Safe Mode.
• If still failing, suspect hardware.

MissNkateko, well mine is working again after wiping the fingerprint with a smooth cloth.

Again today it stopped working but not for long, I repeated the same process and now it's fine. I think it's a software issue cause I haven't been using this phone for more than a year.
