Galaxy A
Good news for those who purchased either the Samsung Galaxy A8 or the Galaxy A8 Plus. These phones are currently receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update via OTA. The update is being deployed in batches, so it could take a few days for everyone to reach all users.
As of now, the update is available/gone live in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan & Ukraine and should reach other regions in the next couple of days. When Samsung released the new Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8 Plus earlier this year, it shipped the phones with Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
The company had promised that the phones would receive the update in a few months, and that day has finally come. In the next few days, users in the rest of Asia, and Europe should start receiving some Oreo goodness on their Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8 Plus smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy A8, Galaxy A8 Plus: Android 8.0 Oreo Update
Alright, since this is a big update, there are plenty of changes, improvements, and security enhancements. Both the Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8 Plus are receiving the update over-the-air, and also via Samsung’s Smart Switch desktop application.
Samsung updates the UI with this update, and the phones now get a less cluttered interface with less bloatware. The new UI is called Samsung Experience 9.0, and you get a lot of new changes. And since this is a new Android version as well, you will see changes to Settings, Notifications, Quick Panel, Camera, and more. You will also see improvements in performance, security, biometrics, and others.
The camera app on the new update is similar to the one available on the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. Samsung has also included Dolby Atmos support for audio over Bluetooth, added 4G VoLTE on both the SIM slots and improved the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi performance. The entire changelog can be seen here, or when you receive the update.
The software version for the Galaxy A8 Plus is A730FXXU2BRG1 and for the Galaxy A8, it is A530FXXU2BRG1. If you have received the update, then make sure that you perform a backup before installing. Also, make sure that your device has more than a 50 percent charge, and is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.
