A17 RAM issues

Samsung, I have a question (or an observation)🤔, but anyone who is free to help can do so.

Android apps (or games); particularly on 4 GB RAM Galaxy smartphones, have an upwards limit of 1.2 GB RAM to run properly. (This is the Android kernel's framework). The dissidence occurs when the System constantly reports that only 900 MB of RAM is available, on most good days.

How could this be? 🧐 As a result, my Samsung Galaxy A17 4G can't play half of the games on the Play Store with stability😭. (Frequent OOM crashes, even though the app's baseline isbelow 1.0 GB.)

Google has still made those high quality games available to download on the Play Store, so that means it's Samsung's fault😶; the mathematics still holds on Google's side.📃

My Galaxy cost the same as a laptop, so how could this be?😵‍💫😥

Please fix🙏

Alongside yours, the devices I'm about to list all have same issue:

1. A24 (One UI 8.5)
2. A07 (One UI 8.5)
3. A06 (One UI 8.0)
4. A16 (One UI 8.5)
5. A15 (One UI 8.5)

All of these devices come with 4GB of RAM out of the box, and One UI 8.0 and 8.5, aka Android 16, requires 6GB of RAM, minimum, to operate properly (if barely). So what it really comes down to is the RAM requirement. One UI is already a resource hog. Add in a game, and maybe another app or two, and it's basically a cry for help.

Some might tell you that RAM Plus helps, but its side effect is that overall system responsiveness takes a hit. It may be minor, but it may also be a huge dealbreaker

Interestingly enough 🤔, switching off RAM Plus makes more space available on your RAM; because the kernel launches less services at start-up. Conversely, when you enable RAM Plus, the OS has less available memory because the kernel sees that as a flag to activate more maintenance services in the background 🧐🎩

To continue the interesting discussion, provide examples of these maintenance services that you claim are being activated. With your stated knowledge, saying what services are being spawned should be a piece of cake.

The vocabulary (kernel, framework, baseline) makes it sound technical, but the actual causal questions don't connect. If you genuinely understood "the Android kernel's framework" and could cite a 1.2 GB limit, you wouldn't need to ask Samsung "how could this be?" That question only makes sense from someone who doesn't know any of the claimed specifics. It's a real complaint (A17 4GB is not enough to do much if any gaming at all on top of heavy OS) wrapped in invented mechanics.

Is that a personal opinion? 🧐 Go Google something first, then get qualifications at school 🤔. How rude

Yes 4gb Ram is Samsung's fault and there's no fix other than more RAM or Samsung actually optimise their OS which there have been no signs of in the last year

Samsung doesn’t develop the core operating system — they simply add their own interface layer on top of Android. That means they can only optimize their overlay to a certain extent, not the underlying OS itself. And ultimately, you’re trying to push gaming performance out of a device that was never marketed or engineered as a gaming phone. The CPU and GPU are the limiting factors here, and adding more RAM wouldn’t solve the performance issues you’re experiencing.
