Come 2021, WhatsApp will end support for some iPhones and Android devices. Now do not fret already, the messaging app will stop working on older iPhones and Android devices and not the new phones. WhatsApp will primarily end support for smartphones that are using dated operating systems. If reports are to be trusted, WhatsApp will not function on devices that are not running iOS 9 or Android 4.0.3 operating systems.

As per reports, the iPhones that do not run on iOS 9 will not able use to WhatsApp on their phones from 2021. The iPhone models include all iPhone 4 and earlier models. However, if you have iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S, you will have to update your phone to iOS 9 or later if you want to continue using WhatsApp.

The iPhone 6S, 6 Plus, and iPhone SE first generation can be updated to iOS 14.

Similary, Android phones that do not have Android 4.0.3 will lose access to WhatsApp. This includes models like HTC Desire, LG Optimus Black, Motorola Droid Razr, the Samsung Galaxy S2. There could be many other Android phones that could lose support for WhatsApp in 2021.

However, if you do not know which operating system your iPhone or Android phone is running on, you can go to settings to check it. For instance, if you are an iPhone user go to Settings > General > Information. There you can check the software details of your iPhone. Similarly, if you are an Android user, you can go to Settings > About Phone.

So now for those who have the option of updating their phones to the latest software can do that. But for those, who do not have the option of updating their software, will have to get a new phone to access WhatsApp on their phones.

On a related note, WhatsApp currently received a slew of new features recently. WhatsApp recently rolled out WhatsApp Payments. WhatsApp had partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) using the Unified Payment Interface (UPI), an India-first, a real-time payment system that enables transactions with over 160 supported banks. For Indian users, WhatsApp has partnered with leading banks including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, the State Bank of India, and Jio Payments Bank. The feature has been rolled out to Android and iOS users.
