I don't know about the green line issue. But keeping your phone in the fridge would risk your phone to get moisture and increase the chance of damaging it further.
You can remove the case of the phone, so it will cool faster. And yes, if your phone is hot, then wait before installing any updates or even before charging. Because, charging the phone when it is hot will also cause battery issues in the long run.
