So, we all are familiar with the ES Techno YouTube channel. His videos are very helpful to Samsung users. I too recommend his videos to many. However, recently I saw a video in which he says that the dark mode is bad for our eyes. But, this claim doesn't have any scientific backing or proof. Let's see what the studies say.

According to studies to date, there is no concrete evidence to say that dark mode is either good or bad. For eg: Many suggest dark mode at night. But, people find it natural to read dark texts on white background. Because in the nature we are not used to bright things standing out from dark background. I personally find it difficult to read white texts on black screen. However, there are people who find the opposite comfortable.

Similarly, even during day time there is no proven harms on eyes caused by dark mode. And the vice versa is true too. The dilation of pupil resulted by reading bright texts on dark screens during day time is too minimal to cause any damage. On the contrary, many find it difficult to read bright texts in a dark environment, especially people with issues like Astigmatism.

If anything, a couple of studies states that dark mode during day time can affect your mood because there are very less blue rays emitted while using dark mode, to which our body is used to during day time. Nevertheless, these studies too don't have anything which says that dark mode is bad for eyesight.

So, in summary, it's all about individual comforts and preferences, until there is some scientific evidence and mass studies to prove the opposite. Therefore, if you all are finding it comfortable to use dark mode, feel free to continue. And, if you're finding it easy to use light mode, continue to do so. If you are among the people who find either of these modes tough on your eyes, you would've already found it so.

Another thing is about the battery savings as a result of using dark mode. This is another myth. The savings by using dark mode is very minimal unless, you are someone who uses the phone at full brightness.

These links will help you to get an idea.

Nb: If there are some scientific studies which proves this wrong, pls let me know. I will be glad to accept it. Because at the end of the day it's all about getting right knowledge and helping the community, right?
No hate on ES Techno channel. Just stating my views on this topic.

That doesn't mean you can speak arrogantly to people. Also, why should your mbbs degree has to do anything with these simple things? I am a post-graduate in Physics and political science. That doesn't mean I should look down on the opinion of people with "lesser" qualifications.

That particular piece of info was from a Harvard study on the same. If at all your superiority complex let you open those articles, you wouldn't have jumped to conclusions and initiated personal insults and provocation.

When did I look down on people, I mentioned it to letting you know I have a decent knowledge in the matter and yes I had read the researches regarding dark mode too. Well I will go through them again.

So is this the way you usually respond to strangers? That's great dear, sir. So you thought that I don't know what a Sun is, visible spectrum, etc, right? Nice. Also what about the words used? Anyway, I won't be replying any further. I would've gracefully accepted my mistake if you had shown some mutual respect, to begin with.

I am sorry too, bro. I overreacted. That's actually because of some psycho troublemakers here. Because of them, every reply seems to be an attempt to make an issue 😂. My bad. We are cool, right?

Regarding Astigmatism, I know what it is. Thanks for reiterating. (Just like you taught me how Sun is a star, filled with gas, visible spectrum, etc. Very enlightening)
"User experience expert H. Locke notes that dark backgrounds can cause a "halation effect" for users with astigmatism. Darker displays cause the iris to open to receive more light. For people with astigmatism, this can make focusing more difficult".

According to the American Optometric Association, astigmatism is very common amongst people. Schaeffer Eye Center writes that nearly 30% of varying populations suffer from different degrees of the condition. Astigmatism causes blurred vision due to the irregular shape of one or both eyes. It can make it more difficult for people to read light text on dark backgrounds. A 2014 Gizmodo article cites the Sensory Perception and Interaction Research Group at the University of British Columbia:

"People with astigmatism (approximately 50% of the population) find it harder to read white text on black than black text on white. Part of this has to do with light levels: with a bright display (white background) the iris closes a bit more, decreasing the effect of the “deformed” lens; with a dark display (black background) the iris opens to receive more light and the deformation of the lens creates a much fuzzier focus at the eye."

It’s possible you have astigmatism and don’t even know it. While you could get this checked out by your optometrist, it may be the reason you don’t feel great about reading stuff on your phone with dark mode turned on

The link to the Android Authority article above has these details about Astigmatism and dark mode. You can check it and teach the doctors and researchers why you think they are wrong. Pls, post a link to your research in this area as well.

I have astigmatism, myopia, strabismus. And no sir, Opthalmologist is better than optometrist especially in our India. I believe there are extremely good optometrist too. But my best suggestion is an ophthalmologist. And I don't find inconvenience while reading texts in dark mode. I use dark mode 24/7.

If you did read my post, you would've read how I concluded it on personal choices and preferences in the face of a lack of proof.
