Samsung and AMD's mRDNA2-powered Exynos SoC just showed up online in the 3D Mark Wild Life benchmark.

It managed to get a score of 8,134, handily outperforming the Exynos 2100, Snapdragon 888 and A14 Bionic

Samsung is expected to launch the SoC alongside the S22 series in 2022.

AMD and Samsung have been working together to develop a mobile GPU for quite some time now. It was initially slated to debut alongside the Galaxy S21 Ultra but was pushed back due to thermal issues. Both AMD and Samsung have since teased the RDNA2-based GPU multiple times. We now have our first look at the Radeon-powered Exynos chip in the wild, thanks to tipster Ice Universe. It shows the chipset's performance in 3D Mark's Wild Life test. The mystery SoC manages to score an impressive 8,134 points in the benchmark, making it arguably the fastest mobile GPU on the market.

To put things in perspective, the previous-generation Exynos 2100 managed to score 5,130 on the same test. Even Apple's A14 bionic's score averaged out at the 7,000 range. The only 'mobile device that managed to beat the Exynos chipset was Apple's M1 chip. However, we can expect the final product to do a lot better. While it could still lag behind Apple's offerings in raw CPU power, the exception GPU prowess should more than make up for it.

It seems that this particular Exynos chipset is running two-generation-old ARM Cortex-A77 CPU cores. Ice Universe adds that this is a prototype designed for testing the GPU and is not reflective of the final product. The upcoming Exynos 2200, which is expected to herald in the new mRDNA2 GPU, will very likely run ARM's newest Cortex 710 and X2 cores. Therefore, we can expect a significant bump in the overall performance. However, thermals will continue to be a pressing issue and we hope that Samsung and AMD come up with a solution.
