Tech TalkSAMSUNG GALAXY A10 – SCREEN CASTING PROBLEM
My wife and I recently replaced our old phones with 2 of the above.
At Christmas we were due to make a WhatsApp video call to a daughter.
To ensure I had everything setup OK, I experimented making a video call.
The screen of the GALAXY A10 was cast to our TV via a Chromecast, and using the Google Home app.
I found I had a problem: I could not get the image to turn to landscape on the TV … it would only show in portrait.
On 22Dec I contacted Google, and the ‘Made by Google’ specialists people answered, who turned out to be very prompt, attentive, and expert, and we began to send each other Messenger messages.
Amongst these was a video I took of the process being used, with views of the TV showing the problem (on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIzybxXrqgc
They asked me to try many and varied things, but the TV image would not change from portrait to landscape.
There were 45 messages forwards and backwards with ‘Made by Google’, and ended 12Jan (almost 4 weeks), at which point they asked me to contact Samsung, as it was evident there is a fault/omission in the GALAXY A10.
Towards the end of this discourse they asked me to try a different phone, and I sought out an earlier one … a GALAXY J3.
‘Lo-and-behold’, this old phone worked … it cast a WhatsApp video call to our TV, and when I turned it to landscape, the image on the TV turned to landscape.
So, I contacted Samsung, and a call from their ‘Remote Management’ team was setup, which happened today (15Jan), and lasted 1hr:19mins:16sec.
During this lengthy call, Ryan took over my GALAXY A10.
He checked many settings, and we tried all sorts of alternative ways to get the GALAXY A10 cast screen to show in landscape on the TV, but to no avail – the GALAXY A10 image was landscape, but on the TV it was always in portrait, with people/objects at 90° to the vertical.
Within the first 10mins of chatting with Ryan I had said that there has to be something wrong/missing from the GALAXY A10’s software, proven by the fact that the GALAXY J3 works fine.
We ended our lengthy call with Ryan concluding that there must be something wrong/missing from the GALAXY A10’s software.
He asked me to put a message on the Samsung Member’s forum, hence this rather lengthy missive (sorry about that).
I sincerely trust that the right Samsung people pick this up, as you can imagine, a tremendous amount of time and effort has been expended over this problem.
I wonder whether other GALAXY A10 users have encountered what I have?
Do any other Samsung phones suffer similarly?
Do other Samsung phones give users what I am a trying to do: get WhatsApp video calls to show in landscape on their TVs?
Ryan said to me that it is the first time he had come across this issue, and he praised me for my efforts to exploit the features of the phone, and for my expertise, which is far from the truth, as I am a ‘pay-as-you-go’ user, spending only £5 to £10 a year on calls … I do not have my phone super-glued to the palm of my left hand.
