After the DeX for Windows app, Samsung may be planning to discontinue another user favourite feature with One UI 7

Samsung’s One UI 7, which the company says is one of the most significant updates to date is just around the corner. While the upcoming Android 15-based update brings a lot of new features, rumour has it that after discontinuing the Dex app for Windows, it is rumoured that One UI 7 may prevent users from downloading Edge Panels from the Galaxy Store Introduced more than a decade ago, Edge Panels offer a quick way to access frequently used apps, widgets and information like weather, clipboard and more with a single swipe from any screen. According to a recent post by users on  notified some users that when users update their device to One UI 7, they “

will no longer be able to download Edge Panels from Galaxy Store However, there is some good news. The notification also states that once “Edge Panels you have already downloaded before updating your device will still be available in the “My apps” section in Galaxy Store.”

Also, Edge Panels that you downloaded before updating to One UI 7 will be available to use, but if you happen to uninstall a panel, there is no way to re-download it. Another thing to note here is that if you purchase a device that ships with One UI 7 out of the box, all your previously downloaded panels can still be downloaded from the Galaxy Store.

It does seem like some users feel that Samsung is gradually removing useful features, both in terms of hardware and software. While Samsung continues to innovate and push updates, it's understandable if certain features are missed by long-time users. Hopefully, Samsung listens to the feedback and brings back or improves those features in future models

You're absolutely right! Samsung DeX was a unique and innovative feature that set Samsung apart, offering users a desktop-like experience right from their smartphone. It was great for multitasking and productivity. Hopefully, Samsung continues to support and improve such features in future devices, as they were definitely a standout

It is necessary to remove features not being used by users and introduce new ones. Otherwise, if Samsung simply keeps adding new features without removing unused or unuseful ones, it will lead to UI lag and may require more space.

You're right about the balance that needs to be struck. Removing unused or unhelpful features can help streamline the user interface (UI), reduce lag, and free up storage space. As smartphones evolve, manufacturers like Samsung must prioritize user experience by keeping the software efficient and optimized. When too many features accumulate, especially ones that are not being actively used, it can lead to performance issues like slower processing or unnecessary bloat

Introducing new features is important, but the key is ensuring they provide real value and don’t overcomplicate the user experience. Regular updates and proper feature management can ensure that users get the best experience without sacrificing performance
