This post is about a mindset problem that I have seen with some users.

Basically, these users expect everything to just work, especially on flagship devices. Nothing wrong with that per se. But then one must not forget that even flagship devices need proper configurations to give the experience one expects from it.

When you buy an expensive car or a bike, do you really expect it to just run without proper service and maintenance? You don't. Doesn't matter how expensive the car or bike is. It requires similar care and maintenance (perhaps more) as the least expensive machines.

Same is true of smartphones. Just because you bought a flagship device with the best hardware, you shouldn't expect everything to work irrespective of what you install on the device, and how you use the system.

Irrespective of the price and segment, your smartphone experience is a direct function of the apps you install, and the way you set it up. I can't stress this enough. This is the primary factor for most common complaints.

It is dumb to think that everything must just work irrespective of what you do with the device.

Much of the premium that flagships charge today are primarily for the cameras, and some software features. Beyond these two, there is little that differentiates the flagships from other devices in terms of performance. As a result, your experience depends on the same set of factors, whether your device is a flagship or not.

Can you be a bit precise dear friend?? I mean what complaints can be solved by mere configuration?? So, that may be some of the users see it and it helps them.

As I have mentioned several times in my other posts and comments, the most common complaints of heating, battery drain, lagging, etc. are primarily a result of installing poorly coded apps, and the permissions granted to them (configurations). APP PERMISSIONS is the most important configuration that most people ignore or are unaware of.

Google Play Store is full of rubbish apps, and a very large majority of apps are simply replicas of each other with a different signature. Take for example the Gallery app. I have tried out hundreds of these, and found that less than 10 are unique. All the rest and perfect replicas of each other.

Lousy developers pick up some open source library, inject ads, repackage them with their own signature, and publish them on Google Play Store. There is zero value addition to the project, and the end product is nothing more than an ad-based revenue source without doing any work, and providing zero value to the end user.

People just install apps, blindly grant them permissions the apps ask for (without understanding the purpose of those permissions and the implications of granting the same), and then experience the same set of problems - heating, battery drain, lagging, etc.

An example would be a music app that asks for microphone permissions. There is absolutely no need for that permission, and an app that refuses to work if it doesn't get an unnecessary permission, should be uninstalled. That app is doing a lot more than what it is being installed for. The result? It uses your hardware and reduces its life without providing any benefit in return. And more importantly, it does all that clandestinely.

When you are careful with the apps you install, and configure your system to grant only the necessary permissions (best thing would be to uninstall apps that ask for unnecessary permissions), control which apps can run in the background, etc., you'll see that a lot of the commonly reported complaints just don't appear on your device.

Hope this provides the elaboration you requested for.

I have a post which contains links to common mistakes people make, and how to avoid them. That post has been linked in the OP. Check it out.

I agree to the configuration and permissions related issues, but the recent s22 series overheating and poor battery issues is due to lack of optimization from Samsung side. People are getting 4 to 5 hours SOT. And I highly doubt all those users have installed dubious apps in their new phones to deserve this. The software needs optimization from Samsung's side.

Yes, the users can change some settings to get a little more juice but major improvements will come when they choose not to use facilities available in the phone like 120hz refresh rate, Always on Display, QHD resolution, and CPU restrictions. That's not fair to pay for facilities and not use them.

About 5 hours is along expected lines. It is far from great, despite the large size battery. Sure optimisation is needed from Samsung's end, but when you cram all sorts of unnecessary stuff into your software, which should ideally be optional, it leaves little room for further optimisation. That's the problem with all feature packed softwares.

I use FHD+ with adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate and AOD. I have been consistently getting over 6 hours SOT, although the standby time for that is 15 hours on average. I charge my phone twice daily.

So if two identical phones with identical software are providing a hugely different user experience, there likely are other factors in play. And apps are usually the culprit.
