Tech Talk
On the 11th March 2025, I had the privilege of visiting the Samsung Members Connect Event at the Samsung R&D Center, a visit for which I had specially registered and was selected. My primary objective was to draw Samsung’s attention to the critical feedback submitted through InnovationLab #54, a platform created two years ago following my repeated requests to Samsung. This initiative allows users to share ideas and feedback aimed at improving accessibility features. I encouraged Samsung to prioritize gathering and implementing this valuable input, which can make technology more inclusive for users with disabilities.

During my visit, I emphasized that accessibility is more than just a feature—it is an essential tool for empowerment. I highlighted how features like Samsung’s Call Transcription are not only helpful for creating notes but also transformative for Persons with Speech Impairments, enhancing communication.
With more than 16% of the global population (130 crore/1.3 billion people) and over 100 million Persons with Disabilities in India, including 2 crore/20 million visually impaired individuals, the need for accessible technology is immense. This represents both a social obligation and a significant opportunity for companies like Samsung to lead in innovation and inclusion.
Key points I addressed during the event:
• Consistent Advocacy for Accessibility: Over the years, I have reached out to Samsung multiple times—through the Samsung Members App, emails, service center visits, and social media platforms—requesting improvements to accessibility features, bug fixes, and better implementation of InnovationLab #54 feedbacks.
• The Need for an Indian Accessibility Team: While Samsung Korea and Samsung USA have dedicated accessibility teams, feedback from Indian users often remains unaddressed. A local team or representative is vital to bridge this gap.
• Timely Updates for Accessibility Tools like Samsung TalkBack: Frequent updates are critical for fixing bugs and ensuring user satisfaction.
• Development of an Independent Screen Reader: Relying solely on external teams has delayed innovation; an in-house screen reader can guarantee consistent progress and reliability.
Why Accessibility Matters:
• Empowerment & Inclusion: Accessible technology fosters independence and equality.
• Economic Growth: Accessibility features expand market reach and enhance brand value.
• Universal Benefits: Innovations in accessibility improve usability for everyone.

I was privileged to connect with Mr. Kyungyun Roo (KY Roo), the Managing Director of
Samsung India’s R&D Center in Noida's MD, who oversees a workforce of over 2,300 employees. After requesting his contact details, I have been in touch with him regarding improving accessibility for everyone, including Persons with Disabilities. His responses have been positive and encouraging, assuring me that Samsung is reviewing the current accessibility status and exploring the request of a dedicated team or person in charge of accessibility.
I am optimistic that Samsung will take meaningful steps to address these concerns and regain its leadership in accessibility innovation—a reputation that has diminished in the past five years following its collaboration with the Google Disability Answer Desk. By focusing on independent innovation and actively listening to user feedback, Samsung has the potential to reclaim its place as a pioneer in accessible technology. Together, let’s ensure technology becomes inclusive for all.
This photo is from the Samsung Members Connect event. I'm in the center left of the picture, standing next to Mr. Kyungyun Roo, also known as KY Roo, who is the Managing Director at Samsung Research India-Noida. He's South Korean. I'm wearing a light orange peach shirt and posing for the picture. Around us, there's a large group of people, all looking cheerful and engaged. Some are holding placards, including one with the Samsung Members hashtag. The atmosphere is lively and festive, with a diverse mix of attendees.
The event happened at Samsung R&D Institute India-Noida which is also mentioned on the big board behind the group of people who are Employees and Customers of Samsung. Towards the centre left of the photograph is me, wearing a light orange peach shirt. Standing just beside me is the Samsung Managing Director Mr. Kyungyun Roo, wearing a grey blazer. We are all happily posing for the photo.
