I inserted my SD card with 30 gb of files into tab s6 lite. It got formatted instantaneously without any consent. Some custom named folders are still there, but all the common folders like pictures, downloads, documents are all empty now, just like that. It did not even prompt for my consent. I lost all my 30gb of data!!!  What the eff!! I LOST ALL MY DATA! JUST LIKE THAT! THIS VERY VERY SHOCKING! Why am I punished for inserting SD card from different device?

OMG! my data recovery has dumped a whopping 8500 files on my face. Which for the worst, lacks original naming, most of the files are numbered now, everything in one folder. Its going to take weeks for me to segregate and organize into right folders. The SD card was overwritten in a flash by this stupid one ui, but now I have to spend weeks to get my data back. Which **bleep** inside Samsung decided its a good idea to overwrite folders without even prompting for user consent? It was so quick, I just inserted SD card inside s6 lite and all I saw is empty folders. Years of data, 30gb just gone like that. Stupid 😡

In my experience SD cards are not safe. Always there is a chance of loosing data. Store important data in a HDD or buy a cloud storage.

I have hard-drives and cloud storage. I keep data where ever it is supposed to be based on my usage. "SD cards are not safe" is a very vague statement. I have been using SD cards for past 15 yrs. It is just as reliable as a pendrive, if you dont swap it around too much. In fact samsungs evo class 10 sd cards are really good. I was using the same in this case too.

But please understand the issue here, It is not the SD card that caused the issue. It is the One UI which caused the issue. All the custom named folders I created are still intact, It is the system created folders like DCIM, Documents, Downloads etc.. are overwritten with empty folders. This happened instantaneously right after I inserted my SD card.
There should have been a warning or a prompt. This is totally samsungs fault. They should be thoughtful when implementing such dangerous process inside their OS. It is very stupid of them to think it is okay to format the sd card without user consent.

Very sorry for what happened, Even my Android TV create these default system folders automatically when I insert a pen drive. I don't get any prompt for overwriting folders. Usually overwritten files are moved to Lost folder. I usually create a folder on my name and put the backup files inside. Nowadays I use separate pen drive or SD card to move data. I think Google should do some changes in Android core functions for removable media.

Thanks! 😓 I have swapped SD cards many times before, this is the first time I am facing this issue. Even my LOST.DIR folder is empty. I couldn't retrieve anything normally, I had to use a recovery software. Which did a worst job of dumping even files from quite long before. It gonna be a huge pain to just segregate these files. Why? Samsung why? Just a little prompt can be a life saver.
