Samsung wallet has been my daily payment method I've been using it for more than 2 years now. It's annoying how all Samsung has done for it is remove the actually useful features and not provided any new ones nor have they provided any substitutes to them.
Useful features that were removed:
- rewards program
- paytm wallet (they could have provided a substitute)
- dedicated covid vaccine certificate (can be accessed via digilocker in wallet)
Features that are extremely required:
- UPI lite functionality (as substitute to paytm)
- Rupay Cards support
- Transit Cards support
- Movie ticket support (obviously not all but atleast with some partners like PVR or BookMyShow)
- Loyalty programs with banks
Why am I saying this now?
Cause google is also planning to expand in india by introducing it's Google wallet soon in india. If this happens then it will be extremely difficult for Samsung to gain any motion in india with Samsung wallet as not only is it only limited to Samsung users but also because of google's popularity in india. Also google plans to introduce all the features provided by Samsung and all the additional features that I've mentioned. If this happens than the only people that use the Samsung wallet would be it's extreme die hard fans.
Google Wallet is now available in India. Many Samsung users have been waiting for the ability to store movie and event tickets in their Samsung Wallet. This would be a convenient addition. We developers from the community can help with it if they want.
