Folks,

I have been asked multiple times by my near and dear ones on how to keep phone safe and by that I mean clean without virus, Malware etc.

Wanted to share below pointers, feel free to add

Apps: (most malware are downloaded through this)
1. Do not enable third party download specially from non google app store...
2. Unless you heard about an specific app from reliable person avoid temptation of downloading it
3. Many have misconception that paid apps are clean, this is absolute BS. Refer points above
4. Checking permission apps asking, irrelevant permissions should be a straightforward red flag
5. Use a good anti virus on the phone
6. Delete any app which you don't remember downloading

Network: (mainly for MIM attacks, virus ext and honeypots)
1. Golden rule is not to connect to any unrecognized network with no security key. Specially individual device names and honeypot causes majority breaches
2. APN to be avoided when host is unknown
3. Watch out for similar sounding SSIDs, honeypots are used in this manner to confuse users
4. Mobile network should be preferred than wifi in unknown locations like public places
5. Watch out for any request for bluetooth connections etc
6. Personally, adhoc connections cause more damages than actual router connections hence thread carefully

Attachments: cause of high number of breaches
1. Do not open unknown attachments even if the file name sounds very curious or familiar
2. Disable MMS settings if you do not use it
3. Watch out for broadcast with suspicious links
4. Disable auto download in apps like whatsapp
5. Most email spams have spelling error and their email domain names are familiar sounding but have extra character etc...
6. Have a reliable anti virus app

While your device may still not be 100% safe but these precautions will keep your device at distance from cyber threats...

I personally recommend as anti virus definitions are updated frequently compared to stock apps
