Well-known tech YouTuber Arun Maini (Mrwhosetheboss) noticed that some of his Samsung phones are affected by battery swelling problems. There are billions of Galaxy devices lying around that seem to be a danger, while a spokesperson said that Samsung is “aware of this matter.”

According to the info, Samsung spokesperson Chris Langlois told The Verge that Samsung is “aware of this matter” and is “looking into further technical assessments.” He added that the company encourages customers with questions regarding their Galaxy device to contact their local Customer Service representative.

TheVerge also talked to Arthur Shi, senior technical writer at iFixit about the smartphone’s battery swelling problem. Shi said that the swelling itself is not inherently dangerous, meanwhile, it’s a safety mechanism to contain the volatile gasses.

iFixit’s technical writer also pointed out that electronic devices’ battery swell mildly every time they are charged and manufacturers have built specific tolerances into the battery wells to account for that. Technically, this point makes sense, but still recommend readers visit an authorized service center if found swelled battery.

Shi said that iFixit also has a lot of phones with bulging batteries, including Samsung and Apple. When asked why the battery swelling problem is happening in Samsung devices higher than in other companies, Shi said it would take a lot of work to figure out.
