Here’s a comparison of Samsung One UI 8 vs One UI 7 — what’s new, what’s improved, and what might matter depending on your phone usage. If you want, I can also pull up a side-by-side in table form for your specific device.

What is One UI 7
  • Based on Android 15.
  • Introduced new AI enhancements, deeper integration with Google Gemini, improved widgets, dynamic features like the Now Bar etc.

Key improvements in One UI 8 over One UI 7

One UI 8 is more of a refinement than a radical overhaul. But there are several useful enhancements.

Here are the major upgraded or added features:

Smoother UI / Animations / Performance
  • Animations & transitions are more fluid. Less stutter in multitasking & general navigation.
  • Better handling of split-screen, especially more flexible ratios (e.g. 90:10 splits) compared to earlier limits.

Now Bar & Live Updates
Now Bar (introduced in One UI 7) has deeper integration in One UI 8. More third-party apps can use it via public API, better support with live updates, showing ongoing activities etc.
Adds more info in Now Bar: phone call status, Do Not Disturb status etc.

Improved App Features & System Apps
  • Secure Folder is more secure: separate fingerprint registration, ability to hide it temporarily (icons, background activity).
  • Better filtering & file handling in My Files / Downloads: filter by app, improved sorting.
  • Enhanced Reminders & Calendar integration: unified kinds of tasks vs events; more suggestions; better UI.
Visual & UX refinements
  • Widgets are slightly larger / bolder; better use of screen space.
  • The Quick Share UI got redesigns: send/receive clearer tabs etc.
  • Notification & Quick Panels updated (especially on tablets) — more dynamic layouts; floating view instead of full-screen etc.
AI / Feature Enhancements
  • More AI tools, more context-aware behaviour.
  • Predictive back-gesture support expanded: in more native apps beyond Google’s.

What isn’t drastically different (or what’s still missing / potential trade-offs)
  • The core look & layout doesn’t change drastically — it’s more refinement than redesign.
  • Some improvements are minor UI tweaks rather than entirely new features.
  • Device support / roll-out may vary; some older devices may not get all the features.

Bottom line: Is upgrading worth it?

  • If I were you, I’d say yes — if your device supports One UI 8 well. These improvements seem practical: better multitasking, better file management, more polish in the UI, improved AI/gesture features.
  • If you mostly use your phone for basic tasks and value stability more than new features, One UI 7 is already good enough. The differences aren’t huge but do improve usability in many small ways.

You can now swipe up to open camera settings like the ratio or the MP size but you have to enable it from the settings...
