Feature Request 💡

image

Dear Samsung, since you already allow multiple fingerprints to be registered for unlocking the phone. Would request you to implement a feature where one can use different fingerprints for different purposes. The only advantage we get with multiple fingerprints is that you can unlock your phone with different fingers when you can't use the other ones maybe because your hand is dirty or busy. Or, if you have registered one of the fingers of your wife/gf/kids to unlock the phone. These are the only advantages of having multiple fingerprints registered.

Let's look at the use cases of using different fingerprints to perform different actions:

In case, I have two registered fingers in my phone.I want to use one to unlock my phone whereas the others to unlock my finanical applications like banking, GPay, and others. I wouldn't want the same finger to be able to unlock my phone and access my banking or other sensitive social media apps that I use.

Another proposal. I think we should be able to unlock different profiles with different fingerprints.

..something like multiple persons fingerprints can open different users. For example, my fingers unlock my phone. If had a kid, his/her finger could unlock my - phone but in Kids Mode with selective application access or If someone asks me for my phone, I unlock it using my secondary finger which automatically opens guest mode with limited functionality and only has access to stuff I choose in advance. And I get to use my default profile by unlocking the phone with my primary finger.

The current situation is totally opposite, irrespective of how many fingerprints you have registered, you can access phone and all sort of security in it using any fingerprint.

Let me know if you like the idea💡 or if you want to add any more suggestion to it.

Do you think this feature would be helpful? Third party apps will be able to implement only when samsung implements this in its OS first.

In the context of fingerprint recognition on mobile devices, it is pertinent to address the distinction between a thumb and a finger. While it is plausible that the device may not explicitly differentiate between the two, it is more likely that the device employs a holistic approach to fingerprint data collection and analysis. This implies that the device does not possess specific programming to discern between the right and left hands or individual fingers. Instead, it relies on the collective data gathered during the registration process to ascertain a match within its database, thereby enabling device unlocking.

So device can recognise which fingerprint is being used right?

It can be, but when we register our fingerprints, it is not mentioned whether we are saving it for the right thumb or finger or left thumb or finger.
It just stores the data as a random fingerprint number in the database.
But if we can specifically save the fingers or thumbs (for example, if the sensor asked us to save the left thumb or index finger), then it can be possible. And if we try to open left thumb saved data with the index finger, then it should not work.
But as of now, it is not possible.

Thanks for the reply. By default samsung names the registered fingerprints as Fingerprint 1, Fingerprint 2, ... and you can rename them too. It can identify which finger print I'm using.

Realme has already implemented this.

Thanks bruh! That's what I'm telling that there are few brands already doing it. Why is samsung trying to copy features from iOS and actually be more innovative?!
