Understanding 4:3 and other Aspect Ratios

The down below picture shows how aspect ratio affects the resolution and cropping on a default Samsung Camera app. Following test was done on Galaxy S10.

Observation :

• If you click picture in Full aspect ratio its the most cropped and out of all has the lowest resolution.

• 16:9 is somewhere in the middle.

• Picture clicked in 4:3 aspect ratio gives you the most of your picture and has the highest resolution of all.

Conclusion :

This is how most cameras operate - they have a sensor ratio of 4:3 or 3:2. Any ratio other than the sensor ratio is just a crop, so it is almost always better to shoot in the sensor ratio first and then crop later if needed. So, a picture in 4:3 aspect ratio is best and if you prefer other ratios, crop it later in Gallery. This way you get the most of the picture you clicked.

There is one more 4:3H aspect ratio. Use this at daytime to get more detailed pictures. Only at daytime in broad daylight. It takes pics at full MP.

That's only in S20 right?

That option is only available for sensors having more megapixel counts, such as in the case of 64MP or 108MP in case of S20 and S20 Ultra respectively.

In my test, 16 9 aspect ratio gave me the most of my picture and had the highest resolution of all.
