This is a follow up of my previous post. And sorry, but this might be a long read. Feel free to jump to the end for the summary.

In my last (battery related) post, I raised my concern over poor battery life on my S23.

I was given many suggestions as to increase my battery performance, which I did. Including: Turning off Ram+, Setting Performance mode to Light, Battery saver at 30% and turning on auto-optimization

And after 5 days, I still feel the battery on the Galaxy S23 is poor.

I had been using an iPhone 11 for the last 4 years, and even in 2023 with 74% battery health, I used to get about 5Hrs SOT with moderate camera use and 3Hrs SOT with around 45min-1Hr camera use ON A SINGLE CHARGE. And around 7-8Hrs SOT EVERYDAY without camera usage.

Today, I used the camera on my S23 for 26mins, for videos and photos, and my battery went WAY DOWN. It usually lasted the whole day but today it went from around 92% to 72% in about 30mins (only camera use of the day) at 11am and then to 34% by 2pm. I charged my phone again upto 55% at 3pm and again it dropped to 32% by 5pm and yet again, I had to charge it so it could last me the day.

My average SOT has been around 4.5Hrs each day for the last 5 days (with the battery optimization things turned on) with around 25% battery left by 11pm BUT WITH NO CAMERA USE. And today, I was uttery disappointed with the battery.

All in all, Galaxy S23 (256gb) is NOT WORTH the money if you want a good battery (and other things considered) even with bare minimum usage. And now I totally fee like all those "7-8Hrs SOT" reviews and reviewers saying the S23 had a good battery were either promotional or just paid reviews. Because, for me personally, my S23 can't even give 6Hrs SOT on a single charge with bare minimum usage.

I hope Samsung fixes it, because no way will I ever recommend a Samsung device to anyone as you can get a better and much stable latest iPhone at the same price.

Samsung has always struggled to peg battery drain in all their phones

Yeah, now I feel cheated because not only I switched but also got a worse device with worse battery and bugs.

We can expect 4 to 6 hours SOT for a mobile with 3900 mAh battery and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

That 7 to 8 hours SOT is only possible if anyone watches Netflix/YouTube continuously on WiFi.

If you're on a 5G network, then switch back to 4G, and it'll give you some extra battery backup.

(If possible, get back to iPhone. Even the Googles own Pixel has issues.)

Okay, thanks for clarifying!

And I just might switch back to iPhone because how poor Samsung has been. It's been less than a month and I'm considering this.

It is not Samsung, it's how Android works. S23 series has been excellent with the Snapdragon processor. Battery drain is minimal compared to last few generations. Android works with multitasking and a lot of background processes. We may not experience them as users. Try uploading photos on Google Drive on an iPhone in the background & be ready for a surprise. Android is flexible & makes slight compromises in battery.

As for your used case, try a reset and wait at least for a week before the s/w understands your usage patterns. With thr vanilla S23 5-6 hrs of SOT is standard with generic browsing etc. Watching videos will increase the SOT by another 2-3 hrs. Also many users have reported mixed battery issues with June & July updates. I'd suggest hold on for a month or so after a reset and then report back. The last option is you might have got a lemon handset.
