Samsung just released a significant update for the Expert RAW Camera app, which comes with two new meaningful features, on paper. Through the same community article, Samsung revealed that the Galaxy S20 Ultra flagship won’t support the Expert RAW Camera app in the Telephoto lens.
According to the Samsung community moderator for the Camera department, the Galaxy S20 Ultra smartphone will only support Expert RAW with two lenses including wide-angle and ultra-wide, however, the Telephoto lens will remain unsupported by the app.
Old hardware, fewer features!
Yes, the reason behind fewer Expert RAW Camera features for the Galaxy S20 Ultra is just old hardware. The monster camera smartphone was launched back in early 2020, featuring Hybrid Optic 10x telephoto lens, which is not able to output Bayer RAW imagery.
It’s worth mentioning that the Samsung Expert RAW Camera app’s computational RAW is based on Bayer RAW. Therefore, the 2 years old Galaxy S22 Ultra flagship won’t be compatible to use the Telephoto lens in the Expert RAW app.
Fewer features, longer delays
Samsung earlier promised to bring the Expert RAW support to the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the second half of this year. As the second half ended on June 30, consumers were expecting RAW support with July 2022 update, however, it’s not happening.
The company moderator said that the Expert RAW support could be released with September 2022 update.

Expert RAW’s Computational RAW is based on Bayer RAW.
The Hybrid Optic 10x telephoto lens mounted on the S20U was not able to output Bayer RAW, so it was inevitably removed from the supported lens.”
