The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is arguably the biggest highlight and a major selling point of the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ (Review), which is why Samsung is looking to make it faster and more reliable through software updates. The company is reportedly rolling out another OTA update to the Galaxy S10 and S10+ to make the fingerprint sensor quicker and more responsive than before. The update (V2.0.8.4) is apparently rolling out in Germany, Poland, Netherlands and the UK, according to a report by SamMobile. Based on the screenshot shared, this is a lightweight update that is just under 7MB in size. The update log only mentions Biometrics security patch with respect to the in-display fingerprint sensor. While the changelog doesn't exactly mention the improvements made to the fingerprint sensor, some Galaxy S10 owners have shared positive experiences on Reddit after downloading the update. Owners say the update has made the unlocking experience faster than ever before. One user commented the "fingerprint reader works flawlessly after the update" while another said, "My fingerprint reader is instant every single time now." Samsung is the first to use Qualcomm's 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor for the mainstream consumer market, and it is touted to be faster and more secure compared to regular optical in-display fingerprint sensors. There have been mixed opinions about the Galaxy S10's ultrasonic fingerprint sensor as some consumers feel the sensor isn't as snappy and accurate compared to an optical fingerprint sensor while others feel the complete opposite. In our review of the Galaxy S10+, we were on the side of those who felt that the fingerprint sensor is fast and responsive, especially when one lightly taps on the display. Last week, it was reported that a Galaxy S10 user was able to fool the in-display fingerprint sensor with a 3D print of his fingerprint, which seems to challenge Samsung's claim that the technology is more secure than what the competition offers.
