Samsung South Africa blocks SIM 1 on Galaxy S devices that installed the August security update (pushed in September 2022). This problem has been widely reported by many galaxy S users this September. We have reported the issue in communities but there is no definitive answer. All we are told is to visit Samsung service centres. This is not a hardware issue, but a deliberate software lock. Similar reports of this problem are all over the internet. Samsung knows this problem and it's not fixing it. Let's all head to Twitter and demand answers from Samsung South Africa. I will drop a link to my tweet in the comments.

They're (Samsung) short changing us!! This is bad, they should explain the reasons behind or just fix the problem

Did you buy your device from MTN or Vodacom? They typically don't supprt dual sim devices so it may have been accidentally enabled when you purchased it, and they realised this and asked Samsung to disable one sim slot. I should add I have a S22 Ultra on a Telkom Contract and both sims work after the September patch.

No. I didn't buy from them. My phone is an unlocked version. So it's definitely not carrier locked. All people reporting this issue are not blocked by carriers but a software lock from Samsung after installing August security update

Then it's probably a bug in the software update for your phone. Try the error reports options in Contact Us in your phone settings or if that doesn't work try calling them and try to get to a manager.

The error reports don't work. They just respond by telling me to find a Samsung Store

It's not my phone alone. It's the security update pushed to all s21+5G phones this month

Just tried on my S21+ 5G to insert a brand new MTN SIM on slot 1 and my usual Vodacom SIM on slot 2: slot one doesn't work while slot 2 is working

That's the behaviour. It's not caused by the carriers (internet service providers). It's Samsung chosing to block our phones
