Galaxy SHi
I recently updated to One UI 8, and since then my fingerprint sensor has been acting up. It shows on the screen when unlocking or using certain apps, but most of the time it doesn’t respond. almost like it’s turned off or not working properly . My wife also have the S22 ultra and having the same issue

Galaxy SI suggest you remove and do fresh fingerprint registration.
Another thing I did when registering, I registered my two thumbs as one. That is i was scanning the two thumbs on one.

Galaxy SYou’re definitely not alone in this,— after the One UI 8 / Android 15 update, quite a few users (especially on S22 and S23 series) have reported fingerprint sensor instability. It’s not a hardware fault — it’s a post-update software calibration issue.
Here’s a detailed way to fix or improve it 👇
---
🔧 Step-by-Step Fixes
1. Re-register your fingerprints
Go to Settings → Security and privacy → Biometrics → Fingerprints
Delete all saved fingerprints
Clean your screen (and finger) properly
Add new fingerprints, preferably 2–3 of the same finger (slightly different angles)
> 🔹 Tip: Add your thumb twice or your most-used finger twice — it helps with accuracy.
---
2. Reset fingerprint sensor cache
Sometimes the sensor’s software layer becomes unstable after a big update.
Go to Settings → Apps
Tap the ☰ (three dots) → choose Show system apps
Search “Biometrics Service” or “Fingerprint Service”
Tap it → Storage → Clear cache & Clear data
Restart your phone
---
3. Disable and re-enable “Fingerprint always on”
Go to Settings → Security and privacy → Fingerprints
Turn off “Show fingerprint icon when screen is off”
Reboot your phone
Then turn it back on
---
4. Check for biometric-related patches
Samsung often releases small hotfix updates after major firmware rollouts.
Go to Settings → Software update → Download and install
If a patch appears (even a small MB-sized one), install it — it often includes “biometric stability improvements”.
---
5. Try Safe Mode (for app conflicts)
Some third-party lock screen or theme apps interfere.
Hold Power button → Tap & hold “Power off” → Tap “Safe Mode”
In Safe Mode, test your fingerprint
If it works fine → a third-party app is causing it.
---
6. Last resort: Wipe cache partition
If all else fails:
1. Power off your device
2. Hold Volume Up + Power until the recovery menu shows
3. Use volume keys → select “Wipe cache partition” → confirm
4. Then select Reboot system now
(This doesn’t delete data, only system cache.)
---
⚠️ Note:
Samsung is aware of this fingerprint issue in One UI 8.0, especially on the S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra. A small biometrics update is expected in the next security patch (likely within October or November).
