Galaxy S
When i tried to capture photos from both side rear and front camera of any human being, during maximum Intelligence Optimization photo is good background is also fine but, Human face suddenly crop or face shape size change.

And when click photos during setting Medium or Minimum Intelligence Optimization, photo of any human face is good but background Optimization is not good.
What i am trying to say is Maximum Optimization means human face shape changes but background is good and during Medium or Minimum Optimization human face shape is same as when taken photos live but background is poor.
Check screenshot for more details. I am taken photos from front camera for your reference.

Front camera usually comes with a wide angle lens. Wide angle lens cause what is known as "barrel distortion" because it's angle of view is wider.
Closer the object to the lens more the distortion.
Intelligent optimisation recognises this and using AI tries to create a natural looking face.
To confirm what I said take a picture from arms length and from say 2 metres away. Take 6 pictures, 3 at arms length using 3 modes of intelligent optimisation and 3 Pictures at 2 metres. Compare and see. The farther the object from camera less difference you will notice between different optimization modes.
