I am using a s21 ultra and am very disappointed in the exynos chip, jt is having severe overheating even from the smallest of tasks, i cant even use my camera app for longer than a few minutes before it shuts down, so sad that this is happening and that no one talks about it

Hi fantom557
That sounds really frustrating, especially on a flagship like the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The Exynos versions of Samsung’s flagship chips have had a history of overheating and throttling more than the Snapdragon variants, particularly in certain regions. It’s not talked about as much because most tech media focus on benchmarks rather than real-world thermal behavior—but trust me, it’s a genuine issue.

A few things to know and try:

1. Thermal throttling is real: Even simple apps like the camera can push the Exynos SoC hard because of its power-hungry cores. The phone may shut down or restrict performance to protect itself.

2. Software patches help, but don’t fix everything: Samsung sometimes releases updates to optimize thermal management, but the chip itself will still overheat under sustained load. Make sure your phone is fully updated.

3. High-res camera usage: Shooting in 4K or 8K, or using high frame rates, will generate heat very quickly. Even normal usage like browsing or social media can feel hot if the ambient temperature is high or if battery optimization is aggressive.

4. Background apps: Check for apps running in the background that may be stressing the CPU. Use Device Care → Battery → Background Usage Limits to minimize unnecessary usage.

5. Case and environment: Sometimes thick cases trap heat. Also, avoid using the phone in direct sunlight or hot rooms.

6. Battery optimization: Some users report that enabling Performance Mode → Optimized or Medium instead of High Performance helps reduce heat spikes.

Honestly, the Exynos S21 Ultra chip is just… temperamental compared to Snapdragon. Samsung’s Snapdragon 888 version usually handles heat far better. If you’re consistently running into crashes with the camera and overheating, it’s a hardware-software limitation, not a defect per se.
