Samsung's One UI 7 and 8 Updates: Rollouts, New Features, and Delays
• Samsung is rolling out One UI 7, its latest Android-based interface, to various Galaxy devices, including the S24, Z Flip 6, and Z Fold 6 series, with a phased rollout throughout April, May, June, and July 2025 in the Middle East, although the rollout has been temporarily paused for some devices due to critical bugs.
• A significant bug affecting the unlock functionality on some Galaxy S24 devices in South Korea caused Samsung to halt the One UI 7.0 update globally, leaving users waiting for a fix before the rollout resumes.
• Similarly, the One UI 7.0 update for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 has also been paused due to a serious bug discovered after the initial release, affecting several regions including South Korea and Europe.
• One UI 8, based on Android 16, is in internal testing (Alpha build) and shows subtle design tweaks, including a redesigned Gallery app, a revamped Files app, and the potential expansion of the Now Brief feature, initially exclusive to the Galaxy S25, to older Galaxy devices like the Z Fold 6.
• The Now Brief feature, a smart AI-based tool providing quick summaries of important information on the lock screen or widget, is a key highlight of One UI 8, and its expansion to more devices is highly anticipated.
• Despite the delays caused by the bugs in One UI 7, Samsung is aiming for an earlier-than-usual release of One UI 8, potentially pre-loaded on its next-generation foldable phones.
• The AR Doodle app also received an update (version 7.0.00.13) with a refreshed icon and performance improvements, available for Galaxy smartphones running One UI 7.
