This could turn into a question if there already is an app that facilitates this. I wanted to suggest a dictionary functionality integrated with search in the finder. One that would work offline. As of now, searching a string will bring up a "search online" suggestion but I think you could easily add an offline dictionary database that would give a quick definition for words that aren't app/settings names. Much the same way, spotlight works.
