I just bought a Galaxy S21 Ultra and got it yesterday, was pleased to see it still had the ability for me to lock apps to the app switcher (so that they do not close when I click close all). I used this for Spotify on my previous OnePlus Nord, and found it to be one of the main benefits I got from switching from iOS.

After updating my S21 Ultra to Android 13, the option has seemingly vanished? When I tap and hold to lock/'Keep open' the app, it instead forces me to go into split-screen or pop-up mode, neither of which I ever intend to use. Making things worse, I can't seem to deactivate either of those either, despite all options being off in the 'Labs' tab. I have turned on 'Never sleep' for Spotify, but that doesn't seem to do anything, it still disappears when I close all apps from the app switcher https://vshare.onl/ .

I would attach screenshots from my old phone to show what I mean but I have no idea how to add an image to this post as well as the explanation paragraph.

Please help, I just want to keep Spotify open :(

I have the same **bleep** problem. Keep open option at recent apps list is passive after android 13 update. How don't you allow us to use this option?

You can still manually choose 3 recent apps to keep open with Android 13, but doing so is slightly different compared to what us Galaxy users have grown accustomed to. Here's how to do it:

1. Open your recent apps and swipe over to the app(s) you want to stay open.
2. Instead of pressing and holding the app icon to pop up the app options bubble, *TAP once* on the app icon.

3. Once you see the app options appear, tap "Keep open" at the bottom of the list like you normally would.

I just updated my Galaxy S20 and was also confused about what was going on with the 'keep open' function. Hope this helps!
