I have an issue with my galaxy S21 that is not automatically switching between my 5GHz & 2.4GHz wifi network when in close range to the router.

I have smart connect active on my router. When enabled, the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same network name and password(only one SSID will be displayed), and your wireless device will automatically switch connection to the Wi-Fi band that provides the fastest speed.

My device stays connected to the 2.4GHz network, I then have to turn my wifi off and back on again on my phone to connect to the faster 5GHz network when in range. My S21 is the only device on my network that does not do this automatically.

Anyome else experiencing the same or have a fix for this?

My S21 does the same thing and so did the S10 it replaced. My router is an ASUS RT-AC3100 (with two range extenders in the house) that sees the phone as having a 5 Ghz connection when the phone is getting the fast speeds. I'll move around the house, or just sit still long enough, and the phone's connection speed will drop dramatically from 300+ Mbps to around 6 Mbps. I'll check the router and my phone will now be connected at 2.4 Ghz. Why is that? The extenders are not the issue; I've checked and tested  the phone with the extenders disconnected and powered down. The phone will be well within the range of the router, even right next to it, and this problem still exist. I've checked with Samsung support and they tell me it's a problem with my ISP. What???? My ISP has nothing to do with this and if it did my other devices would suffer.

Hi, Tophall please reset network settings.

*Stored Wi-Fi, Mobile data and Bluetooth passwords may be removed.

1. From the home screen, swipe either up or down to access apps.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select General Management.
4. Select Reset.
5. Select Reset network settings.
6. Tap Reset settings

If the issue persists, please perform a soft reset of your device.

Press and hold the power and volume down buttons for about 10 seconds.

*The device may take a screenshot, however, keep holding the buttons for a few more seconds.

Hi All,

I'm having the same issue with similar router setup. I recently moved from Flip 3 to S21FE, I never had this problem on the Flip.

I have Asus RT-AC3200 router. It has 3 radio bands, 2.4GHz and 2x 5GHz. It has built in feature called Smart Connect which automatically roams clients between bands based on signal strength, channel utilization and negotiated speed between router and the client.

With SE21FE, during initial connection it connects to 5GHz band without any problem. Then I move to area when 5Ghz signal is too weak and it correctly roams to 2.4GHz band. From this point, when I'm back in 5GHz range, it never roams back to it, it stays on 2.4GHz, until I disable/enable WiFi. I've disabled MAC randomization in SE21FE as I thought that maybe it messes up with the router (changing MAC when switching bands). However, that has not resolved the issue.

My model number is SM-G990B/DS, software version is SP1A.210812.016.G990BXXU2CVD9

That issue is really pain for me, as it affects performance of WiFi connectivity. The phone was tested out of the box, on a fresh software. Please escalate this to your engineering team to troubleshoot further. If you need any logs, reach out to me.

Hi, I just bought a Galaxy S22 and immediately noticed that it does not want to automatically switch between different WiFi networks in my house! So a little bit of background: I have a several floors and each one has different WiFi router with different SSID, etc. Previously I had Huawei phone which had no issues in this regard, it switched networks pretty fast, but S22 keeps connection to Wifi on different floor and does not try to reconnect to much close wifi point. This is pretty disappointing considering how new this phone is.

I seem to have the same issue. I recently bought an S21Fe with is barely 3 days old and I have been unable to connect to my 5.0Ghz band.

What I find most upsetting is that my older device, a Nokia6.2, as well as all other device in my house see all the bands. I might be forced to return this device.

I purchased the S22 Ultra last month and am quite disappointed with the phone's ability to switch Wi-Fi networks. In addition to the S22 I also own a 2016 Galaxy Tab S2 and it switches Wi-Fi networks flawlessly. If Samsung had it right once, why have they digressed?

Same issue in galaxy f41.

While router is in smart connectivity option i.e. our devices will switch between 2.4ghz and 5ghz automatically according to users device and range. When I get out of range of 5ghz, f41 shifts automatically to 2.4ghz but when I get back again in same range of 5ghz device stays on 2.4ghz. I always have to turn on and off wifi of f41 then it get back to 5ghz. I haven't got any solution regarding it yet. Samsung if it is the issue with your phones kindly fix it ASAP. always manually switching to wifi bands is hectic.  Please do something.

Can anyone from Samsung acknowledge if this issue is being looked into for a possible fix with future software updates?
