Galaxy SThe best part is that parents can manage their kids’ access to Gemini with Google’s Family Link. In case you are unaware, Family Link is a parental controls app that allows parents to manage their children’s important account and data settings. So, as a parent, you don’t have to worry, as you can set usage limits and check their interaction history.
Speaking of the use cases for kids, Google, in its email, wrote that kids will be able to use Gemini to find inspiration, learn new things, and do many things, such as create stories, songs, poetry, ask questions, get homework help, and more. As Gemini is an AI assistant, it can make mistakes in some responses. So, Google asked parents to tell their kids that Gemini is not human. While it may sound conversational at times, it doesn’t have emotions of its own.
On top of that, parents should teach their children how to double-check Gemini’s responses and remind them not to share any sensitive or personal information with the chatbot.
Starting last week, Google started emailing parents about the availability of the Gemini app for their kids. So, it should be available on several eligible devices, including Galaxy phones and tablets, this week. Google said that it will notify parents when kids access Gemini for the first time.
While Google’s filters try to limit access to inappropriate content, they are not perfect. As a result, the company acknowledged that a child may still encounter content that parents don’t want them to see. It will be interesting to see whether parents allow their kids to access Gemini, knowing that no filtering system is proof.
