Galaxy SMy Samsung S9+, which worked perfectly since 2018, quite suddenly developed a bug - it started powering off/restarting out of it's own accord, every time the phone was locked manually, or left aside for the auto-lock to kick in. In addition, the phone started guzzling battery power in an abnormal rate. This started a couple of days back and was absolutely out of the blue.
I tried clearing the cache partition, recovery mode to fix apps, factory reset, but nothing helped. Even using it in safe mode caused the issue to keep on happening. So, I took it to a Samsung service center, where more disappointment awaited me in the form of the service engineers being clueless about the cause and asking me to reset the software.
So, I chose to bring it back home instead of having it go though another software reset and started looking up the internet. Luckily I found this thread (https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S-Phones/Galaxy-S9-shutting-down-after-lock-screen-shut-o...) which helped me solve the issue.
Apparently, the fingerprint lock was messing up the phone, causing it to restart. Turning it off made my phone behave normally again.
Samsung, not sure why a bug reported in 2019 came back in 2022. But do build a fix asap and apply the patch. While the fix mentioned in the thread works, it's crude and I hate to leave my phone without proper security.
