App problem!!

Recently my younger brother was trying to install a paid game through free means and ended up installing some app which pops up advertisement all the time on my phone. I tried searching for it but am unable to find it! He (my brother) says that it was named "settings" as an app when he had it installed and it was there temporarily on the app drawer but then it vanished.
So can anyone help with this problem?
I searched for it in the apps through settings but couldn't find it!!

Try formatting the device but make sure you backup you data before that.

what if that particular app gets backed-up as well?

take backup of contacts and pictures as praj10 said and apps can be backed up using an apk backup app which will save the apk file of all apps that can be moved to memory card and installed later on...but with that the progress on apps like games will be lost but games which are synced with google like clash royal and clash of clan don't loose progress.

also use a malware detector app...it protects such app to install.
In my phone i have samsung smart manager...it also helps in that.🖒

Try installing an adware malware removal tool. It will suggest unwanted apps installed

use online backup tools.. google photos for pics and vids.. and store the music in your pc. copy all the contacts to a vCard and send it to yourself via email. format the phone. i know it sounds like a lot of work but its worth it.
