It could be a calibration issue of your compass.

Follow the given steps to calibrate your compass:
1. Tap on the blue dot
2. Select calibrate compass option from the bottom
3. And follow the on-screen instructions until you compass accuracy is shown as high.

This will resolve your compass issue

Now coming to the GPS, it could be affected due to poor connectivity, Turn on high accuracy mode for GPS from your settings.

Now this is just a pro tip, Try to download an offline map of the region, this will help you a lot while navigating and using GPS, even in scenarios of poor connectivity.

Like I stay in Mumbai, so I have downloaded the offline map for Mumbai region, it is quite helpful while navigating as I don't need mobile internet connectivity for loading of maps and GPS works fine.

Thanks Sciphile for the above Calibration and High accuracy mode settings, I had already done that, did that again and still the same issue with GPS..
also tried with 3 different operator SIM cards, but didn't resolve the issue, also cleared Cache and Data storage on Google maps but works initially for about 1 km and looses the GPS, saying GPS signal lost, but Data on the phone will be working.

Download an app from the Playstore called GPS test. It will test whether your device has a proper access to GPS satellites above you.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest

See as far as I know, GPS does not need internet connectivity it works more like a radio receiver, internet is required only for assisted GPS or A-GPS.

Just download this app and check whether your device can access a decent number of GPS satellites. I'm using an M30s and I have never faced this issue in my city. Plus you can see in the screenshot that there are 22 satellites above me and my device is communicating with 16 of them to triangulate my position

See in this screenshot I have turned off my mobile data and Wifi but still I can get a fix on my position via GPS, as I said it does not requires internet to work just make sure that there are no huge structures like buildings that may hinder your direct line of sight with the satellites above you.
