[J7 Max] Choosing apps to open specific files

In my J7 max, I can't select an app to open files (like videos, images, etc.) like in my previous phones. This don't let me choose any app to open file as 'just once' or 'always' . And also I can't put any app as my default app from app settings. As a instant, I want to put MX Player as my default video player. But I don't understand a way to do so. Always videos open with system video player. Can you please help me on this issue?

Thanks abdul. I tried that too. But system video player is not even selected as default app. I tried resetting system references also. But that didn't help me either.

Go to Settings> apps > 3 dots > default apps > default app selection > ask before setting default app.

Thanks Huz. This is already done. But I got one thing. This issue happens only when I open a video from Gallery. Otherwise they allow me to choose between my video players.

1) Navigate to apps >> Settings >> Apps >> Tap on three dots >> Reset app preferences.

Thank you in advance. This happens only when opening a video from gallery. There is no choice to open a video. It automatically opens with Video player comes with the OS. Nothing happens even resetting app preferences. Thank you
