Hey everyone,

image

I’m here to give you guys a small session of post processing techniques.

For me Post Processing is vital for any photographs as it sets the mood and also can deliver treat to the viewer’s eyes as phone cameras fail to capture almost real like pictures due to tricky lighting conditions (Also Kudos to Samsung for improving its HDR with various updates for my Galaxy Note8).

Without any further ado lets dive into post processing world My Primary app for editing pictures is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Attached below is a screengrab from the Lightroom App.

image

The app might be intimidating at first but once you get the functions of the toggles right. It will be really easy for you to edit the pictures later.

So I’m taking a photo of BMC Building, shot in Mumbai with Samsung Galaxy Note8 for this session.

Below is the screengrab of how lightroom app looks when u open the picture.

image

At first you have to hit the auto button to set a base for the image.

The AI algorithms of Lightroom edit the image for you and then u can start editing.

PROFILES

Later I click on Profiles and choose the profile which suits the best for the image which sets the tones and gives us a base to edit further

LIGHT

Later I further toggle the light adjustments tab to my taste. Following are the contents: -

1) Exposure – Helps in adjusting the brightness

2) Contrast – To Tastefully differentiate the lighter and blacker part of the image

3) Highlights – Helps in editing the brighter part of the image

4) Shadows – Helps in editing the darker part of the image

5) Lights – Works similar to highlights

6) Blacks – Works similar to shadows (For more details of what light and black and its effect on the image check YouTube Tutorials

CURVE

I have used the typical S curve that adds contrast with bottom left line lifting up to add the Matte effect.

COLOR

Then the next tab is Colours which is crucial as it sets the mood of the picture. Following are the contents

1) White Balance – To set the white balance (Temperature and Hue toggles can be used or just hit the auto)

2) Vibrance and Saturation – Personally I use vibrance than Saturation as it adds the oomph to the image while retaining the finer details of the image

3) Mix – To edit each colour individually, i.e. Adjusting its Hue, Saturation and Luminance.

image

MIX

Here are the four colours I have edited individually
The sub categories are

1) Hue :- Changes the specific colour to a spectrum of colours

2) Saturation :- Makes the colour Pop

3) Luminance :- Brightens up that specific colour

EFFECTS

The next tab is Effects tab. Following are the contents
1) Clarity and Texture – Adds micro contrast to the image

2) Dehaze – Helps to bring out the sky and clouds (Use it tastefully)

3) Vignette – To add retro style corner darkness

4) Split tone – As the name suggests it splits the tones for highlights and shadows i.e. You can add specific colour in Lighter and Darker parts of the Colour

SPLIT TONE

I have added warmth in the highlights and cool colours in the shadows

I hope u find this tutorial helpful and if u want further additions to this with other apps like Light Distortions and Snapseed. Or even other details of Lightroom app I will make part 2 tutorial with those Mentioned in it
